I wanted to provide an update regarding Mobile phone theft, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. As the weather gets warmer I would like to remind residents that this can lead to increases in theft of personal property from members of the public - specifically mobile phones.
This is particularly the case around Angel Tube Station and along City Road.
This is also a reminder to consider crime prevention advice, particularly when enjoying yourself on evening or afternoons out. Thieves will target anyone and everyone who give them opportunity for them to steal.
The weekend gone I assisted a victim of phone theft after a night out in central London - calling 999 and giving the location of the crime and description of the suspect to the call handler.
What will assist the call handler in a situation like this are details such as the following: - A description of the suspect (particularly if there is anything distinguishing) - A direction of travel - Specifically where the phone was taken from you (as in most cases, the victim will have moved on from the initial location).
ALWAYS REPORT. I appreciate that some may feel it may not be worthwhile, particularly where you find yourself unable to report at the time - however, we can still consider realistic lines of enquiry such as CCTV. Accurate reporting of crimes also helps us build an intelligence picture where we can focus resources to tackle these problems.
We are working on our brand-new strategy for how we police London and we want your help. Our New Met for London: Phase 2 strategy will guide how we deliver on behalf of Londoners over the next three years. |
